MG Karen E. Dyson
Major General Karen E. Dyson serves as the Director of Army Budget, with responsibility for formulating, submitting to Congress, and executing the Army’s current and planned budgets. The goal is to accurately reflect budgetary requirements and manage appropriation spending to enable the Army to deliver mission support to Combatant Commanders and the Nation.
Major General Dyson has commanded finance units in contingency operations at all organizational levels, having led the 66th Finance Detachment in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Headquarters Company of the 7th Finance Group (Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm), the 208th Finance Battalion (Operations Joint Guard and Joint Forge) and the 266th Finance Command (Operation Iraqi Freedom/Enduring Freedom). She also supported the nation’s initial governing organization in Iraq as Chief of the Coalition Provisional Authority Support Team.
Major General Dyson’s staff positions include assignments Assistant Professor of Military Science at Shippensburg University; Executive Officer and Deputy Finance Officer for 7th Finance Group, VII Corps in Germany; Budget Officer and Program Analyst in the Program Analysis and Evaluation Directorate at Department of the Army Headquarters; S3/Operations Officer and Deputy Commander of the 266th Finance Command in Germany; Chief of Staff/Director of Financial Management and Comptroller for the White House Military Office; Executive Officer to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller) and Executive Officer to the Under Secretary of the Army; Director of Operations and Support, Army Budget Office; and Director, Business Operations at Army Headquarters.
A graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Major General Dyson holds Masters Degrees in Business Administration and National Resource Strategy. She is most proud of the Meritorious Unit Commendation awards achieved by exceptional teamwork of Soldiers she’s been privileged to serve with and lead. Her awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (with three Oak Leaf Clusters), the Bronze Star Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (with five Oak Leaf Clusters), the Parachutist Badge and the Presidential Support Badge.
